Paul’s Sister Judy: She’s Crazy ’bout a 1949 Mercury
The old 1949 Mercury, it’s a classic car with a classic story. My baby sister Judy (now Judy Hille) – pictured here about age 3 in front of our St. Paul, MN home and my mom’s maroon 1949 Mercury!
There’s no way to prove it now but it may have been the last strictly stock ’49 Merc left on St. Paul’s east side! (I remember the high school aged boy across the street – Dennis Dickson – had a beautiful deep blue “Chopped and Channeled” ’48 Mercury complete with custom painted flames on the sides and rear quarter panels!
Down below, you can listen to Steve Miller’s ode to the 1949 Mercury. Alan Jackson had a respectable country version. I purposefully selected a live version of the tune from 2009 in Chicago because it features Lauderdale (St. Paul suburb), Minnesota’s own Gordy Knutson on drums. Incidentally, Gordy Knutson was the drummer in the last band I played in.
