Fayetteville is in the Bible Belt, and All over our area, Vacation Bible Schools are making plans to start up.  Some as early as next week.  One of the largest churches in our region, Lewis Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, is inviting all to its Community Celebration Vacation Bible School for all ages, including parents and adults, Wednesday June 14 through Friday June 16 6:30 to 8pm.  Speaking for all the organizers at Lewis Chapel Missionary Baptist – Janifer Campbell, Director of Christian Education, and Kiera Geiger, Youth Ministries Coordinator, say the early evening timeframe for the Fun, Food and Fellowship make it easier for entire families to attend.  Even supper is covered! (AUDIO EVERONE is INVITED)..at either The John D. Fuller Recreation and Athletic Complex on Old Bunce Rd OR Lewis Chapel Missionary Baptist’s Raeford location at 468 Hobson Rd. They say you’re also invited to their water carnival at the John D. Fuller Rec and Athletic Center on Old Bunce Rd. … called “Kingdom Splash Fest” – Saturday June 17, 11 to 2!  We’ll visit Janifer and Kiera again next Sunday.

Meanwhile, the past few days have been eventful at the U.S Army’s newly renamed Fort Liberty.  The Army was tasked with renaming nine post facilities across our country…and in turn gave the actual job of deciding on the post names going forward to the communities that served, supported and depended on the continuity of the posts themselves now and into the future….as you’ll hear in this address to the group of marchers who came out to the inagural Sunset Liberty March on the post, held this past Thursday Night…by the Commanding General of Fort Liberty and the 18th Airborne Corp, Lt. General Christopher Donahue.

Well spoken.  Thank you, General Christopher Donahue.

Believe it or not, this past Thursday was the first day of Hurricane Season, which runs through the 30th of November.  In our area, September and October are generally the peak of the season.  But in a year we can expect 12 to 17 named storms (winds > 39 mph), 5 to 9 hurricanes (winds 75 mph or greater) and 1 to 4 major hurricanes (winds 135 MPH or more), we already seen a named storm (Arlene) in the Gulf of Mexico.  The key is being ready…and the time to start planning is now.  As you listen to our conversation with Cumberland County Emergency Services planner Gary Crumpler, feel free to bring up Ready.gov or ReadyNC.gov on your computer.  These are websites full of good information about information to know and plan with – also equipment and supplies you’ll NEED TO HAVE ON HAND as we plan for the 2023 hurricane season.  We welcome Gary Crumpler of Cumberland Emergency Services.

(Crumpler interview)

Thank you, Gary Crumpler.  Again, two excellent web addresses with great preparation lists are Ready.gov and readyNC.gov.  Remember, too, the website of this Beasley Media Group station has a storm preparation guide – as do Fayetteville PWC and many other utilities.  Keep a list of the phone numbers you may need to call in a waterproof bag.

As we began talkback today, I reminded myself of my High School Graduation 53 years ago today.  I’ll never forget it!  Which reminds me to remind you of the significant milestone being marked by seniors in our area schools!  To each, we wish love and luck…luck and love!
