Charlie Puth Gets Boost After Being Named In Taylor Swift Song
Charlie Puth is probably the only artist who benefited from being named in Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department. In the album’s title track, where Swift shades her ex-romantic partner, 1975 frontman Matty Healy, she mentions Puth in a good light.

The “We Don’t Talk Anymore” singer, 32, was named in the lyrics: “You smoked then ate seven bars of chocolate. We declared Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist. I scratch your head, you fall asleep, like a tattooed Golden Retriever.” As we previously reported, some fans trolled Swift’s lines about Puth while others absolutely agreed with her on social media.
One fan commented on the line on X (formerly Twitter), “imagining Taylor swift and Matty healy being like ‘Charlie Puth is so cool’ is so funny.” Quoting a Real Housewives episode, “It’s wack-a-doodle time,” added one fan. Hilariously, a third fan suggested, “Thinking how the amount of gaggage it would’ve been if she said Carly Rae instead of charlie puth.”
Charlie Puth’s Boost and Praise by Swifties
Regardless of the expected hate on a Swift track, Puth’s Instagram followers skyrocketed to 18.1 million at the time of our publishing. Puth has gained 30,962 followers on Instagram since the Friday, April 19 album release, according to analytics website Social Blade. Puth has yet to respond to Swift’s shoutout, but fans are desperate for his thoughts on the matter.
Recently posting a photo with his fiancée, Swifties flooded the Jersey native’s comments section with praise and following Swift’s suggestion of declaring “Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist.”
“The tortured poets department declares you should be a bigger artist,” one Swiftie commented. Another asked, “Hows it feel to be mentioned in Taylor swifts song?!?!” A third asked, “How are you doing after the Taylor Swift callout.”
Hopping right on the Puth praise train, another fan wrote: “We declared Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist ” – Taylor Swift [white heart emoji].” Meanwhile, one fan pleaded, “charlie we are waiting for your reaction.” Asking the Swiftie community in the comments section, another fan asked: “WHO ELSE IS HERE FROM TPD? [laughing emojis].”
Showing support for Puth, who last released an album in 2022, one fan wrote: “Streaming Charlie Puth because he should be a bigger artist.” A second agreed, “you really should be a bigger artist.” Another fan asked, “Charlie are collaborating with Taylor? Or in future? We need the answer.”
One Swiftie swooned: “TAYLOR MENTIONED YOU SLAYYYYY.” While another wrote: “half of the comment section is filled with ttpd [crying emojis] (I love it sm).” Another stated: “bro just casually won life by getting mentioned in a taylor swift song.” As another fan shared support, writing, “@taylorswift and the community declares you should be a bigger artist.” Another praised Puth: “Holy crap. How does it feel to be the chosen one? Getting a shout-out in a @taylorswift song.”

Taylor Swift’s 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, has already come with surprise after surprise. From the double album release to the songs shading Kim Kardashian, Matty Healy, and Joe Alwyn, TTPD has “left no crumbs,” as they say.
What stood out to us most about the 31 songs is that Swifties — whether happy and in love or going through it — all loved her dark and cheeky lyricism. I am not a Swiftie, but I can recognize when Swift, 34, has a hit. As a songwriter, Swift can be clever, and her usage of advanced vocabulary absolutely shines on this album. At other times, as pointed out by others on social media, Swift can be a little juvenile with some of her lines, making us wonder what the hype is all about.

However, compared to other successful pop artists of today, no one else does it like Taylor Swift. She reaches her fans worldwide with her lyricism and musicianship. Every album is an event, and this one is no exception. TTPD has been compared to her 2020 album, folklore, with fans commending her use of synths on this album as well.
Longtime collaborator and friend Jack Antonoff shared his love for Taylor on X (formerly Twitter) and listed his favorite tracks on the record, both of which actually ended up on our list as well. “!! FOTS heads lets go !!” he writes of the 7th track, “Fresh Out The Slammer.” He later hyped up track 4, “Down Bad,” as it “heads as well.”
