The comedian, who has been recently promoting the second season of her Hulu television series, Life & Beth, got candid about it. Ahead of the show's premiere Friday, Schumer made appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and The View.
She took to Instagram Thursday (February 15) to address all the commentary. She wrote in a very long caption: "Thank you so much for everyone’s input about my face! I’ve enjoyed feedback and deliberation about my appearance as all women do for almost 20 years." She then admitted that folks are right: her face "is puffier than normal right now."
Going into the reasons why that is, Schumer mentioned her endometriosis, the autoimmune disease that she previously revealed in 2021. At the time, Schumer had her uterus and appendix removed to combat endometriosis, a painful condition that has no cure. She also had a hysterectomy after her doctor found 30 spots of endometriosis that he had removed. She encouraged "every woman" to read about it, for there are "some medical and hormonal things going on" in her world right now." The condition affects one in 10 women of reproductive age worldwide, forming tissue similar to the lining of the womb in other places, like the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and intestines. The main symptoms of endometriosis are menstrual irregularities and pain, which may be felt in the abdomen, during sex, or when urinating.

Assuring her 13.1 million Instagram followers that she is okay, Schumer went on to say that historically speaking, "women’s bodies have barely been studied medically compared to men." The 42-year-old unapologetically states that she doesn't believe women don't need an excuse for their physical appearance and owe no explanation. Her reason for doing so, she claims, is to advocate for self-love and acceptance of the "skin you’re in."
