Beasley Best Community of Caring – Autism Awareness

About

Each April, the world focuses its attention on educating the public on autism spectrum disorders during World Autism Month.

Over the next several months, the Beasley Best Community of Caring initiative will work toward increasing a deeper understanding of autism spectrum disorders.

Here are several statistics from the CDC that provide more background on autism spectrum disorders in the United States:

  • Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability that can cause significant social, communication and behavioral challenges.
  • About 1 in 68 children has been identified with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) according to estimates from CDC’s Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network.
  • ASD is about 4.5 times more common among boys (1 in 42) than among girls (1 in 189).
  • ASD is reported to occur in all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups.

As a part of the Beasley Best Community of Caring, we’ve created this online resource to provide you information to help you understand a little bit more about autism spectrum disorders and the resources available to help those living with autism and their loved ones.

Please check back often as our team will be adding new information for you to read, watch, listen to and share.
