The Merry Go Round, or Carousel, was first shown in its present form in London

1946

Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis stage their first show as a comedy team at Club 500 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

1964

"A Hard Day's Night" by The Beatles' is the #1 album in both the US and UK.  It was released on United Artists records, the movie company's label.

1966

Last Train to Clarksville is recorded by The Monkees. Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart wrote it. Mickey Dolenz sang it. Louis Shelton played the lead guitar on his Fender Telecaster.
That same day (July 25th) 1966, The Supremes release "You Can't Hurry Love."

1969

U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy plead guilty to leaving the scene of an accident.  This followed the tragic car crash and Mary Jo Kopechne drowning incident.

1970

The Carpenters' "(They Long to Be) Close to You" hits #1 on the Billboard Singles Chart! It was composed by Burt Bacharach and Hal David.

1978

Louise Brown, the first test-tube baby, was born in England to Lesley and Gilbert Brown

AC/DC release Back In Black, their first album

Roseanne sang a horrible rendition of the National Anthem at a San Diego Padres game

1997

The films "Air Force One" and "Good Burger" were released in theaters.

2000

George W. Bush selected Dick Cheney to be his running mate on the Republican presidential ticket.

2001

Aaliyah gave her final performance, singing "More Than a Woman" on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Exactly one month later, flying back from a video shoot in the Bahamas, overloaded plane carrying her crashed and exploded on the runway. Everyone on board was killed.
