Which of the national fast food chains have the best French fries in Fayetteville? We take a look.

It’s National French Fry Day and it’s time to determine what the top five fast food French fries in Fayetteville are!

Nothing can get you more fired up than the debate over who has the best fries! And the folks at National Today put out their results for the best fast food fries in America. And lucky for you, all of these are available in Fayetteville.

There are a few spots outside the top five that we don’t have here, like In N Out and Shake Shack, but the rest we have! The survey also determined that the favorite style of French fries is regular, just beating out curly fries. Coming in third is steak-cut fries, with crinkle fries grabbing fourth.

And what about condiments for those fries? Well, obviously ketchup is king, followed by ranch, cheese sauce, barbecue sauce and mayo.

And a disappointing 33 percent of Americans say they are grossed out by dipping fries in milkshakes. We all know this is why the Wendy’s Frosty was invented. Come on!

As for where French fries came from… well it’s not so easy to determine the origins.

“Like most iconic foods, the French fry has an interesting folk story about how it was created. Belgians call dibs on the origins of French fries, claiming it to be an invention of their people,” National Today says. “According to a manuscript by Joseph Gerard, the residents of the Meuse Valley, located near Dinant in Belgium, consumed a lot of fish, since they lived near the river. During winters, when the rivers would freeze and fishing would become difficult, the idea to slice potatoes like fish fillets and fry them in hot fat was born.”

So, which of the French fries in Fayetteville reign superior? Here’s the list!
