No surprise for regulars, but a Fayetteville bakery has been named one of the top 100 donut shops in the country, according to Yelp.
Friday, June 3 is National Donut Day, and Yelp released its annual Top 100 US Donut Shops list, with Fayetteville’s Superior Bakery coming in at number 26 overall, amongst some seriously elite competitors.
Yelp said it took all of the businesses in its system under the donuts category, and ranked them using a number of factors, including its famous rating system, number of reviews, and more.
“To create this year’s Top 100 US Donut Shops list, we scoured the nation for the best bakers of America’s glazed, iced, dipped, sprinkled, and cream-filled confections,” Yelp said in its release. “Some shops, like #1-ranked Round Rock Donuts near Austin, Texas, are local institutions that have been serving their communities for generations. Others, like SK Donuts & Croissant in Los Angeles (#2), are family businesses that trade hard work and great recipes for a taste of the American dream.”
Superior Bakery, a long-time fixture at 2433 Hope Mills Road, has a 5-star rating on Yelp, with 205 reviews. Known quite well for its filled croissants, Superior Bakery has been serving “Quality Baked Good Since 1956,” and is run by Nicko Poulos. Nicko is the son of founder John S. Poulos.
