United Way of Cumberland County Awards $28,500 in COVID-19 Relief Grants

The United Way of Cumberland County announced it has awarded $28,500 in the first batch of its new COVID-19 Relief Fund grants to three local community partners. The grant was set up earlier this month to help fund organizations who are directly helping people meet critical needs in the community.

The first batch of organizations to receive funding meet a strong cross-section of community needs. Better Health of Cumberland County received $9,500 to help with prescription drug payments. Catholic Charities received $9,500 to help with food distribution in the community. And Fayetteville Urban Ministry received $9,500 to help families with utility payments.

After initially starting the fund with $15,000, several community partners stepped up to provide additional funding, including BB&T now Truist, the Fayetteville Rotary Club and several individual donors. Donations are still being accepted for the fund, and you can get involved by visiting www.unitedway-cc.org, texting United to 855-735-2437 or mailing a check to UWCC office at 222 Maiden Lane, Fayetteville NC 28301 with COVID-19 written on the memo line.
