A Woman Describes How She Got Dumped On Zoom, And It’s Incredibly Awkward
Dealing with the everyday changes and struggles surrounding the coronavirus is already tricky, and for Julia Moser, insult was added to injury when she got dumped during the pandemic. The Buzzfeed News writer didn’t only get dropped, but due to social distancing and self-quarantine, it happened via Zoom.
Julia Moser explains the incredibly awkward encounter in full detail of how her boyfriend of only a few months broke up with her during the pandemic. “The breakup was about as humiliating as you would expect,” she begins her story before giving details on how everything went down.
She explains that they both were in self-quarantine, so the budding relationship continued with FaceTime and Zoom dates. Then one day, she got the “Hey are you free to talk later?” text. She also explains the beginning of the call, saying, “It didn’t help that the internet connection wasn’t great so we kept freezing, and I said, ‘We’re breaking up’ and we were!”
She adds that even though her ex broke up with her in an honest, decent, and forthright way, the whole ordeal still made her miserable. “But there is something particularly bruising about this happening in the midst of a global public health crisis. I can’t have my friends come over and bring me sheet cake and wine. Crying over FaceTime to your sister isn’t the same as getting to wipe your snot on her shoulder IRL.”
