CCS Rolls Out In-Home Learning Plan; Will Deliver Meals

Cumberland County Schools held a news conference Tuesday to roll out the details of a plan it had announced some of on Monday. It addresses how the school system will handle education and meals for children during the school closure time brought about by coronavirus precautionary shutdowns.
In addition to the items below, the system announced that there will be bus delivery of meals to many areas. Further details of that plan will be coming soon.

During the two-week period, Cumberland@Home, a remote learning opportunity that will allow students to continue to learn beyond the classroom, will become a vital tool for retaining what has been learned this school year. Through the virtual-learning tool, all Pre-K through 12th grade materials will extend learning opportunities previously taught by classroom teachers. These review materials will help deepen students’ understanding and prepare them for the end-of-the-year standardized assessments.
“In light of the Governor’s executive order and the recommendations from health officials, we are working expeditiously to keep our employees and students safe from the spread of COVID-19,” said Superintendent Dr. Marvin Connelly, Jr. “While we realize our students will not receive face-to-face classroom interaction for the next two weeks, we are confident that with the support of our parents and ‘teleworking’ educators, Cumberland@Home will keep our students moving in the right direction.”
Pre-K through 8th-grade students will complete paper-and-pencil assignments. Pre-K through 8th-grade materials may be picked up at the following locations (beginning Wednesday):

High school students will complete their assignments virtually via Google Classroom and Cumberland@Home.
Teachers will hold virtual office hours from 9 a.m. – noon daily to support students and parents. District staff will be available via a hotline with virtual hours for additional support.
Meals Pick-up Sites for Students
To provide meals for many CCS students during the two-week period, Child Nutrition Services will have curb-side pick-up meals for children ages 18 and younger. Each child will receive two meals: Lunch for the current day and a breakfast for the following day. The meal pick-up sites can be found here: http://bit.ly/mealpickup.
Work Schedule for CCS Employees
This afternoon, district officials announced that employees will observe Optional Workdays from Monday, March 16 – Monday, March 30. Beginning on Tuesday, March 17, Cumberland County Schools employees at schools and district offices will ‘telework’ through Monday, March 30, unless further direction is provided from the Governor or Health Director.
