Why Frankie Muniz Won’t Let His Son Be A Child Actor
Frankie Muniz knows a thing or two about being a child actor, as he got discovered at eight years old at a talent show. Muniz appeared in commercials and made his debut in the 1997 made-for-television movie To Dance with Olivia. In that same year, he appeared in another television film, What the Deaf Man Heard.
It was in the year 2000 that Muniz landed a starring role in the beloved sitcom Malcolm in the Middle (2000 to 2006). Now, as a father of a young child himself, Muniz doesn’t want his kid to follow in his footsteps. The Big Fat Liar star explained why he isn’t keen on the idea of his son Mauz, 3, pursuing acting.

“I would never let my kid go into the business,” the 38-year-old told Australian outlet PEDESTRIAN.TV in a TikTok video posted Sunday night (March 24). “And not that I had a negative experience because, to be honest, my experience was 100 percent positive. But I know so many people, friends that were close to me, that had such insanely negative experiences.”
The former child star, who shares his son with wife Paige, continued, “And I just think it’s an ugly world in general. I never cared about rejection, but there’s a ton of rejection.” Muniz still works as an actor and is also a NASCAR driver. He also worked on Nickelodeon shows in the past, voicing Chester McBadBat for the first two seasons of The Fairly OddParents, and hosted the 2000 Kids’ Choice Awards and two episodes of All That. He added in the minute-long clip that being a successful actor is like “winning the lottery.”
Getting the starring role of Malcolm in the Middle, Muniz says he got picked most likely because he had the look of a kid that could be the starring adults’ actual kid. In this case, his TV parents were Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek. Muniz thinks people think it is so easy to break into Hollywood when in reality, there are “a million people in Hollywood” who won’t even get the opportunity despite their talent level. It’s all up to luck, he believes.

As we recently reported, a new docu-series titled Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV details Drake Bell and other Nickelodeon child stars who detailed the abuse and inappropriate behavior they endured on set. Bell has been calling out fellow actors for openly supporting his abuser, dialogue coach Brian Peck. Peck was arrested in August 2003 on eleven charges related to allegations that he’d sexually abused an unnamed child. The following year, Peck pleaded no contest to performing a lewd act with a 14- or 15-year-old and to oral copulation with a minor under 16. He was convicted of molesting a minor.
Muniz is on the latest season of Australia’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here. On Sunday’s (March 24) season premiere, the actor had been asked to appear in several of the show’s previous seasons before he finally agreed. He told Australia’s The Daily Telegraph that between scheduling difficulties and the fact that the show doesn’t air in the US, he wasn’t “quite sure exactly what it was.”
