Fayetteville Man Wins $100,000 Lottery Prize with Unique Strategy
A Fayetteville resident’s lottery routine paid off big this week when Thomas Shadley won $100,000 with a 100X The Cash scratch-off ticket.
“I only play on Wednesdays and Saturdays,” Shadley shared. “And I always wait until 11 p.m. to scratch my tickets. That’s just what I do.”
Shadley purchased the $20 ticket Wednesday morning at College Lakes Liberty on Ramsey Street but stuck to his ritual, waiting until 11 p.m. to scratch it.
“I saw one zero, then another zero, and then another,” Shadley recalled. Excited by the win, he woke his wife to share the good news. “She told me she wouldn’t be able to go back to sleep after I showed her how much money we won.”
On Thursday, Shadley claimed his prize at lottery headquarters. After required federal and state tax withholdings, he took home $71,756.
The couple plans to use the winnings to pay bills and take a special trip to New Orleans to celebrate their 36th wedding anniversary.
The 100X The Cash game, which debuted earlier this month, offers four top prizes of $2 million and six prizes of $100,000. As of now, four $2 million prizes and four $100,000 prizes are still up for grabs.
Last year, the lottery raised $22.3 million for education programs in Cumberland County, supporting initiatives like school construction, pre-K programs, and scholarships. For more details, visit the “Impact” section at nclottery.com.
