Japanese Scalp Treatment – A Treat You Didn’t Know You Needed
Sometimes, we all need a little pampering. After several straight weeks of intense workdays, I decided to indulge in the TikTok trend of Japanese Scalp Massage.
If you haven’t seen this new beauty treatment come across your social media, let me break it down for you. The viral Japanese head spa or “scalp facial” treatment has gained popularity through TikTok as a specialized scalp care service. This therapeutic treatment focuses on improving overall hair health by addressing scalp conditions and stimulating circulation. It’s much more than just a regular hair wash – it’s a comprehensive treatment that includes several pampering steps.
The Process
- Initial scalp assessment using microscopic equipment. A thorough scalp examination helps determine your specific needs, whether it’s addressing dryness, oiliness, or other concerns.
- Aromatherapy relaxation session
- Customized treatment application with specific ingredients
- Ultra-sonic mist steaming. The warm steam opens pores and hair follicles, creating optimal conditions for deep cleansing and nourishment. This process stimulates blood circulation to the scalp, which is crucial for healthy hair growth and preventing hair loss.
- Therapeutic scalp massage.
My Experience
I was lucky enough to find a local spa (April Ann’s Healing Hands) that was running a promotion on this service, so I took the plunge. My therapist, Mikayla, explained the process in full and after taking insanely close up pictures of my scalp to assess what would be the most beneficial, we got started. It was the most relaxing hair washing of my life. In addition to the massage aspect, Mikayla chose tea tree and rosemary essential oils to add to the steam portion of the treatment, to clear scalp build up and promote circulation.
After the treatment, we compared the before and after scalp photos to gauge the effectiveness of the service. I was shocked at such a big difference! The before photos showed some redness and product build up and the after photos revealed a calmed, clean surface.
The treatment promotes better blood circulation, reduces stress, and helps maintain a healthier scalp. Many locations offer customized versions targeting specific concerns like dandruff or hair thinning. Prices typically range from $35 to $330, depending on the location and service level chosen. The entire experience can last anywhere from 15 minutes to 90 minutes, making it a wonderful way to pamper yourself while improving your scalp health.
