Foster The People Mash Up Eminem, Dua Lipa ‘Houdini’ Tracks
When Eminem dropped his track “Houdini” it was only a matter of time before someone did a mash-up with Dua Lipa’s “Houdini.” The artists released separate songs named “Houdini” about six months apart. Bu way before these songs, Foster the People released their own track of the same name in 2011.
The band’s vocalist Mark Foster decided to do a mash-up of all three songs together. In a video posted to social media, Foster shared a breakdown of how he chopped up parts of each “Houdini” and combined them into a mash-up, which doesn’t sound half bad. The video had the caption, “Battle of the Houdinis (we worked it out in the remix) @dualipa @eminem How’d we do?”
Foster The People “Houdini” Mash-Up
People seem to really like the mash-up, but many fans praised the band for their version of “Houdini.” One person said, “guys you are the real kings of Houdini, love u.” Another person chimed in writing, “OG Houdini >>>> Dua and Eminem.” While it is most likely not the case, one person alleges that Eminem and Dua Lipa took Foster the People’s song name. “No because I was literally saying that they were stealing Foster The Peoples song name.”
Foster the People’s “Houdini” was featured on their breakout debut album, Torches, released in 2011. Dua Lipa later released her own track titled “Houdini” in November 2023, serving as the lead single from her latest album, Radical Optimism. Following suit, Eminem dropped his song “Houdini” in May 2024 to promote his forthcoming album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), which is set to release next Friday, July 12th.
Next month, Foster the People will unveil their new album, Paradise State of Mind, marking their first release since 2017’s Sacred Hearts Club.
Eminem and Dua Lipa have yet to respond to the mashup but as a fan of all three artists, I’m hoping they do. Maybe we can get a live mix of their songs floating around the internet.
Why Houdini?
Were all of these artists inspired by Harry Houdini? If you didn’t know, Harry Houdini was a famous magician, escape artist, and stunt performer. He gained fame from acts like freeing himself from handcuffs, straitjackets, and sealed containers.
According to History.com, Houdini performed before a packed house in Detroit on October 24, 1926, but was rushed to the hospital afterward with an apparent case of appendicitis. He died just a week later on Halloween from a ruptured appendix.
