Only two and a half months after filing for divorce from Tom Brady, after 13 years of marriage, and Bündchen’s emotions are still very raw. “It’s like a death and a rebirth,” the supermodel tells the publication on Wednesday (March 22).
Losing a partner to divorce feels like death to Bündchen, 42. The Brazilian bombshell calls her mourning "the death of my dream." She adds, “It’s tough because you imagine your life was going to be a certain way, and you did everything you could, you know?” After getting choked up, she continues on to say that despite the hurt, she's grateful she gave everything she got. "You give a hundred percent of yourself, and it’s heartbreaking when it doesn’t end up the way you hoped for, and worked for, but you can only do your part.”
Bündchen wanted to clear the air that she had not presented Brady with an ultimatum. She did not, in fact, say that if his career continued, their marriage would not. According to Bündchen, no such thing ever happened and she calls those characterizations “very hurtful” and “the craziest thing I’ve ever heard.” When asked if there’s anything that’s been reported about her highly-publicized split that isn’t true, the model emphasized, "Everything."

To best summarize how her 13-year marriage unraveled, Gisele said there was a gradual drift between the two. “Sometimes you grow together; sometimes you grow apart,” Bündchen said. “We wanted a family, we wanted things together. As time goes by, we realize that we just wanted different things, and now we have a choice to make."
Rather than put Brady in "jail and say, ‘You have to live this life,'" she decided that setting him free is the best way to be authentic and live "the life that you want to live."
The Messiest Celebrity Splits of 2022
In the world of Hollywood, celebrity relationships don't tend to last long -- especially if Pete Davidson is involved. 2022 has been filled with tons of celebrity breakups, but the ones that hit us the most were the couples who were together for years! Some splits took us by complete surprise! Scroll below to see which couples didn't make it to the new year:
Christina Evangeline and Keenan Thompson

After over a decade of marriage, the 'Saturday Night Live' star and his wife called it quits back in April. They have been informally separated and co-parenting their two children for "over a year" before the announcement. Thompson and Evangeline dated for four years before they tied the knot in November 2011. The pair has two young daughters.
Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady

After 13 years of marriage, the couple split following “tension" after Tom un-retired from playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Gisele gave Tom an ultimatum to choose between their family (they share 2 boys together) and his NFL career.
Jo Koy and Chelsea Handler

The cutest funny duo broke up just shy of their one-year anniversary. In a video recorded for their anniversary, Chelsea captioned the post: "It is with a heavy heart to announce that we have decided together that it is best for us to take a break from our relationship right now. To be loved and adored by @jokoy has been one of the greatest gifts of my life. He renewed my faith in men, in love, in being 100% who I am, and I’ve never been more optimistic for the future."
Brittany Snow and Tyler Stanaland

After two years of marriage, the couple announced their split back in September. A source said Tyler's new reality series 'Selling the OC' and storylines about their relationship was the "final straw." In a public joint statement they said: "We started this journey as best friends and our relationship will continue to be a priority not only for us but for our dog Charlie."
Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde

Though they never made a red carpet debut as a couple, the closest thing we got was when they used 'Don't Worry Darling' co-star Sydney Chandler as a buffer. After two years of dating, the couple announced they were taking a "break" due to Harry touring and Olivia wanting to focus on her children.
Devin Booker and Kendall Jenner

The on-and-off couple broke up in October. As for the reason for their split, a source said, "They are both still young and extremely busy in their careers. It was becoming difficult for them to prioritize their relationship with their schedules."
Pete Davidson and Kim Kardashian

Probably the most random relationship of the year were these two. The couple called it quits after 9 months of dating. Long distance seemed to be the deciding factor, but neither have publicly commented on the breakup.
Julia Fox and Ye

Following his split with Kim K, Kanye dated quite a few models. Julia Fox was one we did not expect, but he put her back on our radar in the short six weeks that they dated. Long distance was once again the culprit at the time of their breakup, though Fox added that she also left at the "first sign of a red flag." When asked what exactly the red flag with Ye was, said it was "the unresolved issues that he was dealing with. It just seems like he had a lot to work on, and I just don’t have time for it, or energy. I don’t have the bandwidth or emotional capacity for it. I’m proud of myself for that."
Sebastian Bear-McClard and Emily Ratajkowski

After four years of marriage, Ratajkowski filed for divorce this October. She came out as bisexual and was linked to Brad Pitt before she started dating Pete Davidson in November. Prior to their split, rumors of Sebastian cheating on Emily and her being checked out of the relationship for a long time seemed to be what broke the camel's back.
Gerard Pique and Shakira

The couple dated since 2012 and share two sons together. The singer referred to grieving the relationship as "the darkest hours of my life. I've remained quiet and just tried to process it all," she said. "It's hard to talk about it, especially because I'm still going through it, and because I'm in the public eye."
Fred Armisen and Natasha Lyonne

The actress and the 'Saturday Night Live' split in April after 8 years of dating. Lyonne revealed. "I honestly think we broke up because I wanted a swimming pool... We love each other just about as much as two people can love each other and we're still talking all the time, but Freddy doesn't like a swimming pool. It might seem like a mundane reason for a breakup, but during that pandemic, you've got to get your laps -- I'm like Burt Lancaster in 'The Swimmer.'"
Lisa Bonet and Jason Momoa

The 'See' star announced the news of the couple's separation in January after 16 years together. "We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times… A revolution is unfolding ~and our family is of no exception… feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring And so~ We share our Family news~ That we are parting ways in marriage," the pair shared in a joint statement posted to Momoa's Instagram. "We share this not because we think it’s newsworthy ~ But so that~ as we go about our lives we may do so with dignity and honesty. The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived. We free each other ~to be who we are learning to become… Our devotion unwavering to this sacred life & our Children. Teaching our Children What’s possible ~ Living the Prayer May Love Prevail. J & L."
Ali Wong and Justin Hakuta

After eight years of marriage, the parents to two young daughters announced their divorce in April. Wong and Hakuta, both 39, met at a friend's wedding reception in 2010, when Hakuta was a student at Harvard Business School.
Tish Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus

Tish Cyrus filed for divorce from the country singer in early April after 30 years of marriage. Citing "irreconcilable differences," the couple didn't live together for the last two years. A joint statement from the pair read: "It is after 30 years, five amazing children and a lifetime of memories, we have decided to go our separate ways - not with sadness, but with love in our hearts."
Cory Booker and Rosario Dawson

In February the actress and the New Jersey lawmaker split after three years of dating. The two reportedly have remained friends after their split. In 2020, Rosario said about her relationship, "It's the first time I felt like I had to be responsible about my choice of love, which is a challenging thing to do. If you fall in love, you fall in love. But there's another aspect I had to consider: what this meant in [putting] a microscope on my family and particularly on my daughter."
Michael B. Jordan and Lori Harvey

Harvey and Jordan dated for a year before splitting up in June. Harvey has said that she is now "dating on her own terms" after the breakup. Since the split, neither Lori or Michael have dated anyone in the public eye. However, when Lori was asked generally about what her red flags are, she said, "I would say if you’re too close to your exes that’s a red flag. Cordial, OK, you speak. I don’t want y’all to have beef either ’cause then that gets messy… On the flip, how would you feel? Are you cool if I’m still cool with my exes?"
Cory Hardrict and Tia Mowry

Tia filed for divorce in October after 14 years of marriage. Though Tia said the pair "will maintain a friendship as we co-parent our beautiful children," she also said: “It’s not about staying in something because however long you are in that situation that equals success. It’s about really, again, are you happy? Because life is really short.”
Toni Collette and Dave Galafassi

After nearly 20 years of marriage, the couple decided to call it quits. The couple had been separated for a “substantial period” of time before they announced their divorce in December. In a joint Instagram statement they said, "After a substantial period of separation, it is with grace and gratitude that we announce we are divorcing. We’re united in our decision and part with continuing respect and care for each other. Our kids are of paramount importance to us and we will continue to thrive as a family, albeit a different shape. We’re thankful for the space and love you grant us as we evolve and move through this transition peacefully."
Nia Long and Ime Udoka

The actress and NBA coach called it quits after news of Udoka allegedly having an affair with a female co-worker within the Boston Celtics organization, and was suspended as head coach of the professional basketball team. Long began dating Udoka in 2009 and the couple got engaged in 2015. They share a 10-year-old son, as well as Long's 21-year-old son from a previous relationship.
