Per gossip website TMZ, his last scheduled rehab appointment was missed the Friday night before his dead body was found drowned in a bathtub the next morning.
Sources close to Melanie Martin, Aaron's fiancée and mother of their 11-month-old son Prince, said that she was desperately trying to get him help during their off-and-on relationship. Unfortunately, the "I Want Candy" singer mostly kept her in the dark about any recent addiction struggles. Sources say Melanie signed up Aaron for outpatient rehab after confronting him in September. Per the gossip site, Carter got a welfare checkup around that time when fans got worried he was huffing compressed air off-camera; there were multiple cans of compressed air found at in his bathroom and bedroom, as well as prescription pills.
Aaron supposedly agreed to go through the program. He was apparently motivated because it would help him regain some custody of their son, who is currently under the care of Melanie's mom. Sources say he stopped the program briefly, but was reinstated last week. Friday evening's online session resulted in a no-show. When the facility reached out to Melanie, they found out about the tragic news.
On Saturday morning, police were called to Aaron's Lancaster, California home by the housekeeper. The last known contact with him was 2 AM Friday. Aaron's cause of death will not be released by the L.A. County Coroner's Office until toxicology results are returned. Carter died at age 34, one month before his December 7 birthday.
Martin made a sweet tribute video on TikTok to Aaron. She captioned it: "Theres so many thoughts in my head right now. I miss my fiance so much and I hope you can see from some videos how much light he brought to a room. My love you were taken too soon from the world. These are some great healthy moments we had together and i will cherish them forever. God only made one of you and i was lucky enough to have met the love of my life. Theres no one ill ever be with again i always told you that you are the only one for me for life. i am not ready to let you go but God has decided that he wanted to show you a better place. RIP My baby love."
She told People that her heart "is completely broken" over his passing. She added that she couldn't help him "in the way I felt he needed it" due to his "very independent and strong personality."
The 30-year-old model added, "I only wish I had more people to help me with him. I will now be raising our son as a single mother and this is the worst day of my life, but I have to be strong for our son."
