It’s Voting Time for the USA Mullet Championships! Yes, Really!
Morgan Wallen is sporting one, Blake Shelton is bringing it back and the lady at my local gas station wears hers with undeniable pride. Nothing seems more American that the popular hairdo known as The Mullet. Mullet Season is upon us with the 2022 Mullet Championships.
With a kids and teens division, as well as a men’s and the ever popular “femullet” categories, there is something for everyone.
Even the Mullet King himself, Joe Dirt, weighed in on the competitive action.
And what about mullet history? There’s a lot of thoughts on where this thing started.
“According to some historians, the mullet has been around since at least Ancient Greece, where the style was as much for function as it was for fashion,” Mullet Championships said about the look. “Cropped hair around the face with longer locks in the back allowed for both visibility and a protective layer of hair for your neck. Homer even described a haircut that sounds eerily familiar in The Iliad: ‘their forelocks cropped, hair grown long at the backs.’
“The relative ease of maintaining it makes it possible to keep up even without the existence of barbershops and hair salons, and the practicality makes it perhaps one of the oldest haircuts in human history.”
Far and away the cutest aspect of this even is the kids division, where some of the mullet wearing minors have been growing their locks for most of their lives.
The Champion will be chosen in October but there is plenty of time to head over to the USA Mullet Championships page and cast your vote as to who will win the $2,500 prize! So, drink some beers and avoid the shears, good luck to one and all! May the best hair win!
