The speed limit on several Fayetteville roads will be changing, effective Wednesday, July 27.

As we reported recently, the new speed limits will affect drivers on some of Cumberland County's busiest roads.
Andrew Barksdale, a spokesman for North Carolina Department of Transportation said current speed limits are inconsistent with the traffic flow.
“The characteristic and use of a road can change over time as the city grows and you have more businesses,” Barksdale told CBS 17.
He said it will be up to the city to enforce speed limits on the three state roads.
The roads affected are:
- Cliffdale Road between Raeford and Reilly roads. The current speed limit is 50 mph. The new speed will be 45.
- Pamalee and Country Club drives between Bragg Boulevard and Ramsey Street. The current limit is 50 mph. The new speed will be 45.
- Stoney Point Road between Dundle Road and the Hoke County Line. The current limit is 55 mph. The new speed will be 45.
Motorists will notice message boards along the highways prior to the change.
“Over the months I have been meeting, email, texting and talking with (North Carolina) DOT, and I even sent in a council member request to lower the speed on Pamalee, Skibo – all the way to Ramsey,” Fayetteville City Councilman D.J. Haire said during a recent council meeting. “That speed there – which is surrounded by neighborhoods – at 50 miles an hour – and schools. I wanted 40 (mph), but I’m thankful for 50 to 45.”
The change on Stoney Point Rd. was a long time coming.
“Anyone who lives in that area understands that there are so many accidents, and cars running into the back of people’s yards,” District 6 City Council member Chris Davis said. “As we grow and we get more densely populated areas, these changes in speed limits, we hope will be a good safety measure.”
