Australian Olympian Fixed Her Kayak with a Condom, Threw Up and Won Gold
An Australian Olympic canoer goes to the Summer Games, uses a condom to plug a leak, throws up in secret and wins gold. Sounds like the start of a crazy joke.
Jessica Fox is the woman behind all of these feats accomplished in one day. Per the New York Post, Fox won her first Olympic gold medal earlier this week in the women’s C1 canoe slalom and bronze in the canoe slalom K1 final. She shared a video on TikTok showing how she repaired the damaged nose of her kayak using a condom.
“Bet you never knew condoms could be used for kayak repairs,” Fox captioned the video that showed a condom securing a carbon mixture to the front of her kayak. She added that the condom’s stretchy latex is “very stretchy, much strong,” giving the carbon that “smooth finish.”

“This is the Olympic content we deserve. Thank you. Bless,” commented one TikToker.
As we previously reported, condom distribution has been lessened to 160,000 — with Olympic officials making it clear that the condoms are intended for athletes to use only once they’re back in their home countries.
Jess Fox’s condom usage wasn’t even the most shocking thing she did at the Tokyo Summer Games — the 27-year-old vomited in secret before being awarded her first gold medal. She ran around the back of a group of tents at Tokyo’s Kasai Canoe Slalom Centre to do the deed.
When she re-emerged to compete in the women’s C1 canoe slalom, she told her coach/mother, Myriam — a former canoeist who competed in the Olympics, “I was like, ‘I feel really good, but I just threw up, so I’ll be all right.’ And then we fist-bumped.”
Fox explained that the cause of her upset stomach was due to “whatever I‘d had between the runs.” It didn’t sit well with her, so she thought, “‘OK, my body’s ready, that’s just my body telling me to get ready for something big.'”
Once Fox felt brand new, she posed for pictures and captioned the post on Instagram, “Olympic Champion! 🤩😭😍🤯😱 We did it 🥇 Thank you for screaming at the TV – I felt the love, the energy, the good vibes when I needed them most!”
Fox won gold in the women’s C1 canoe slalom with a time of 105.04 — three seconds ahead of her friend and rival Mallory Franklin of Britain.
