Backstreet Boys’ AJ McLean Says Seeing Britney Spears ‘Broke’ His Heart
AJ McLean rallied behind his fellow ’90s pop star in a new interview with Andy Cohen yesterday (July 14), calling Britney Spears’ conservatorship “asinine,” “insane” and “completely brutal.”
While speaking on Andy Cohen Live, the Backstreet Boys singer shared, “My thoughts and my prayers are with her. I am 100 percent team Britney.” He went on to explain that Spears is “pretty much my neighbor” and sees her often because they both go to the same shopping center in the Los Angeles area.
“There’s this amazing cupcake shop that she goes through, that I go to,” the 43-year-old said. Though they don’t usually chat when he runs into her, AJ described his most recent interaction with Spears.
“The last time I saw her, it broke my heart,” AJ said. “Last time I saw her, she was with a gentleman. I’m assuming it was security and/or maybe a driver.”
“Went in, she was there, she looked right at me and I was like, ‘Hey, it’s AJ,'” he recalled. “And she just kind of had this glass face. Like, she just didn’t know who was there. It took her a minute. And then she realized it was me, and we hugged and we talked for a brief moment, but I could just see that this wasn’t her. Like, I’m not looking at the person I knew from years and years ago and I know a lot of that — in my opinion — could be whatever they’re keeping her on.”
The one thing that really “irks” McLean is her IUD implant, which he calls “physical abuse” and “grotesque.” Britney said she “wants to be able to get married and have a baby,” and that she has an IUD implanted that she wants to be removed. She alleged that she hasn’t been allowed to make those decisions on her own.
As we earlier reported, Britney scored a legal victory when a judge ruled that she can hire her own private attorney. She chose former federal prosecutor Mathew Rosengart, who’s worked with Sean Penn, Steven Spielberg, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Keanu Reeves in the past.
