After First Week Success, Omni Drive-In Continues On With “Goonies”
A mostly successful first week of operation for the temporary Omni Drive-In Outdoor Cinema has led to another week of shows. The theater in the parking lot of the Omni Cinemas 8 on Sycamore Dairy Rd., will be showing “Goonies” and “Bad Boys For Life” this weekend.
After successful showings of “The Wizard of Oz” and “Purple Rain” last weekend, the July 3-5 holiday weekend showtimes will be “Goonies” at 8:45 p.m. and “Bad Boys For Life” at 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. Sunday night will have only “Goonies” at 8:45 p.m. Presale tickets are highly encouraged, and can be bought at Mountasia Golf next to Omni Cinemas from noon to 8 p.m. any day this week.
One of our listeners who went last weekend commented that there are a few things you should keep in mind if you go out this week (special thanks to Mike Shea): “It was cool and it got us out of the house, but get there early and be prepared. Lifted/oversized vehicles were allowed to park towards the front making it harder for some to see the screen. Depending on where you are it may be hard to sit outside your vehicle or have your windows down because of the exhaust coming from running vehicles. Headlights continually coming on was also a distraction. All in all, it was cool for the price and the fact that it’s a makeshift drive-in. Just a heads up for what to expect.”
There are a few new stipulations in place to help get things running a little smoother. In a Facebook post, owner Adam Jay gave a listing of the drive-in rules. They included:
- Sick? Please stay home!
- Face masks are mandatory when entering concession stands and restrooms.
- Your car is your seat. Chairs in front of your car or truck beds may be used, one space per vehicle.
- Larger trucks please park in back of parking lot!
- One ticket per vehicle!
- Bring a portable radio, your car battery will thank you.
