MLB Players Agree To A 60-Day Season Set To Begin In July
The Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) has come to a decision regarding the 2020 baseball season.
Per CBS Sports, “Players will report for another version of ‘spring’ training on July 1, and the league’s imposed 60-game season will start July 24.” The outlet adds that health and safety protocols are still being finalized.
The league will wrap up the regular season by the end of September and the postseason by the end of October. The postseason will feature 10 teams, as per usual.
MLB was supposed to launch its regular season on March 26, but it was paused due to COVID-19. CBS Sports adds that so far, 40 MLB players and staff members have tested positive for coronavirus. Because of this, MLB has ordered spring training sites to be closed and properly sanitized. They lastly explain that employees must test negative for the virus before being allowed to return.
