AMC Theaters Set July 15 Opening, in Time for ‘Mulan,’ ‘Tenet’ Releases
AMC Theaters – which owns and operates two movie theaters in Fayetteville – announced it will be opening at least some theaters on July 15. The timing of the opening will allow the theaters to show two expected blockbuster films this summer: “Mulan” and “Tenet.”
AMC owns the AMC Fayetteville 14 on Lake Valley Drive, and the AMC Market Fair 15 off of Skibo Road. AMC representatives said it had not been decided yet if the Fayetteville theaters will be included in the initial reopening. Current North Carolina guidelines designed to limit the spread of the coronavirus do not allow for theaters to be open.
While some theaters will be open, they do plan to operate at only about 30 percent capacity initially, hoping to scale up to full capacity by Thanksgiving.
Along with the reduced seating capacity, AMC Theaters said it will be blocking out seats automatically next to parties to ensure social distancing once it starts opening again.
“At all recliner auditoriums, AMC will automatically block out 1 seat on either side of every party. At all non-recliner, reserved seating auditoriums, AMC will automatically block out 1 seat on either side of every party and the seats in the rows in front of/behind each party,” AMC At all recliner auditoriums, AMC will automatically block out 1 seat on either side of every party. AMC has said it will not require masks unless local ordinances require them.
“In areas of the country where guests are required to wear masks, AMC will abide by that ordinance and guests will be required to wear masks except while eating and drinking. Guests at other locations are strongly encouraged to wear a mask during their visit to AMC.”
The timing of the opening allows for AMC to hopefully recover some of its losses from being closed since March. Two major films will be coming out right after that reopening, with Disney’s live-action “Mulan,” set for a July 24 release. And the latest Christoper Nolan film, “Tenet,” set for release on July 31. Both were expected to be huge hits for movie theaters this year.
