BREAKING: NC Governor Orders Public Schools Closed March 16-30
North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all public schools in the state closed beginning Monday, March 16 through at least March 30.
All public gatherings of more than 100 people will not be allowed. This is mandatory.
“There’s no question that this needs a statewide response, and statewide action,” Gov. Cooper said. “Hindsight is 20/20. I don’t want any regrets in our rearview mirror when this pandemic subsides. I am guided by a clear goal – doing all we can to keep people from getting sick & to make sure that those who do have excellent care & treatment.”

Of note:
.@NC_Governor: The large gathering order does *not* apply to restaurants, shopping malls or other retail stores. There is guidance from @ncdhhs about social distancing. Be mindful of #socialdistancing and take steps to protect customers.

.@SecMandyCohen: I do think the fact that we've not had community spread in NC is a good thing; we want to slow down the spread of the infection. Social distancing, cleaning surfaces is slowing the spread. We will continue to watch the number of cases. #covid19nc

.@SecMandyCohen: We have changed the testing criteria for COVID-19 earlier this week. We want people to be tested if they have cough, fever, and a negative flu test.
