Selena Gomez’s New Album Is Her Most Honest & Taylor Swift Agrees
Selena Gomez is opening up about her upcoming album, Rare, in a new interview. In it, Gomez admits that her old music didn’t really represent her in the same way her new record does. Turns out, Gomez’s bestie Taylor Swift agrees.
In her new cover story with WSJ. Magazine, Gomez said that throughout most of her career “there was a lot of putting my music together for me, and I didn’t have much control.” For example, she said her 2013 single “Come and Get It” was all an act. “That’s so not my personality,” she explained. “The lyrics are, ‘When you’re ready, come and get it.’ I would never say that!”
With Rare, Gomez is finally revealing her true self and her friends hear a difference. “I remember Taylor [Swift] said when I played her some of the new songs, ‘I feel like I’m seeing who you were before this [the Justin Bieber heartbreak and everything],'” she told the mag. “That makes me happy. I like feeling like that girl again.”
In the article, Gomez also opens up about her friendship with Swift. “She has showed up for me in ways that I would have never expected,” Gomez said. “Flown in because I was hurt and was going through something. Stuff that was going on with my family. It’s been proven year after year and in every moment of my life that she is one of my best friends in the world.”
She added, “We don’t agree on everything, but we respect each other with everything.”
WSJ. Magazine‘s issue with Gomez hits newsstands Jan. 18.
