A man was found deceased inside his home in Cumberland County on Tuesday evening.
The discovery was made by the sheriff’s office.
According to WRAL, it appears the victim drowned in his trailer home located in the Cedar Creek community — In close proximity to the Cape Fear River.
Prior to finding the victim, local officials had visited the man’s home and asked him to evacuate due to rising flood waters. Unfortunately, the man told officials he wasn’t going to leave the premises.
At this time, the victim’s name has not been released.
While undoubtedly tragic, the man’s death could have been prevented. This incident is a good reminder that it is imperative that local residents evacuate when in imminent danger.
