On New Year’s Eve, it was rumored that Drake would be performing at a party hosted by Snapchat.
Now, one would think on one of the most exciting party scenes of the year, the social media company would love the exposure of having an A-list artist performing for their employees, right?
Well apparently, we are wrong.
The party was held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles but low and behold, there was no activity at or in the vicinity on Snapchat on New Year’s Eve.
Weird. It’s almost as if the company placed a geofilter block on the location.
So, why would they do such a thing?
An article published in Quartz offers some insight into the matter.
The party, which was personally funded by their Chief executive Evan Spiegel, was reportedly priced at several million dollars. And, let’s be clear, everyone knows Snapchat has had a rough go of things since going public in 2017. Perhaps “hiding” the party was a way to not upset investors for throwing such a lavish gathering. It’s important to remember though, this was funded with personal, not company dollars.
There was just one oversight by Snapchat by boldly not allowing people to post at the event on their platform. Because well, other social media platforms exist and Drake DID confirm he was performing at the gathering in an Instagram Story. You know Instagram Stories, ripped straight from Snapchat’s Stories.

All in all, Snapchat should have proudly allowed their employees to post on their platform at the party. That way, they could have avoided the embarrassment of having the party all over other social platforms.
