Taylor Swift Gives Emotional “New Years Day” Performance On Fallon

It was even more emotional than intentional because of Jimmy Fallon. 

Jimmy's mom Gloria passed away, and he honored her in a short video. Jimmy said that his mom used to squeeze his hand 3 times and say "I love you," and broke down sharing the story, and how he always was trying to make her laugh.

The reason that it made Taylor Swift's performance for the song "New Year's Day" that more emotional, was because in the lyrics, she says "You squeeze my hand three times in the back of the taxi / I can tell that it's gonna be a long road / I'll be there if you're the toast of the town, babe / Or if you strike out and you're crawling home."

Questlove tweeted afterward, eluding to the fact that he thought Taylor had adjusted the words to fit Jimmy's story, but that those were the actual lyrics to the song. He was beside himself:
