Well, not the real Star Wars character, just a surgery tech who happens to share the same name. The 39-year-old Darthvader Williamson worked at a Tennessee and was named after the legendary Sith Lord.
During an interview with St. Francis Hospital-Barlett, Williamson told the cameras that it was his father’s idea to give him that name. In the interview, he states “When I was born, my mother wanted me to be named Junior, which was after my Father, Anthony Lee Willamson. But with him being a ‘Star Wars’ buff, he was enamored by the character Darth Vader, he was like , ‘this would be one bad name for our son.”
Darth Vader is alive, well and currently working as a surgery tech at Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett. Darthvader Williamson could have been taken by the dark side but instead he used the light side of the force to do good by starting a career in healthcare.
He also revealed that his father was more than likely to give him the name of his choice because his mother was under general anesthesia. Allegedly, when he mom was less loopy, she looked at the birth certificate and wondered what she had done.
According to the Tennessean, he “used to get in fighter because [him] name was Darth Vader.” DarthVader went on to say that “I used to be made fun of, ‘hey space boy, come here.” It was not until recently that she changed his first name from two words, to one.
If Darthvader Williamson isn't a hand surgeon then the Universe is out of sync. 😀
Other boys may have been jealous of his name, but he always found that girls took it as a conversation piece. His popularity with the ladies made him “grew to love it from there.”
Since Star Wars continues to be a major part of popular culture, DarthVader noted that having the name has helped him out recently. In an interview with the Tennessean, he said that he has gotten out of traffic tickets and was even invited to Star Wars related events. Sometimes, he is even asked for his autograph as well as pictures!
Having this name, you would think that Williamson was a huge Star Wars Fan. However, he has never seen the movies past ‘Return of the Jedi’. He told WCVB News that if he were to pick a favorite character in the franchise it would be Boba Fett. His reason? “Darth Vader is always talking. Boba doesn’t do much talking. When you see him, you know it’s going down.”
