The Nickelodeon Universe theme park is planning to go inside of the American Dream mega-mall in the Meadowlands.

The 3-million-square-foot complex has been pretty empty since it was build. Almost a decade later, the Canadian developer, Triple Five, announced that they have unveiled plans for a Nickelodeon theme park. If all the plans go through, it will be the largest theme park in the Western Hemisphere. Currently, that title goes to the IMD Worlds of Adventure in Dubai.

Another theme park of the same name, Nickelodeon Universe, currently exists in the Mall of America in Minnesota. Triple Five president Don Ghermezian told Philly Voice that “Based on the success we have seen with Nickelodeon Universe at Mall of America, we are excited to bring the number one entertainment brand for kids to American Dream.”

Feature attractions that visitors can expect to see include, “SpongeBob SquarePants, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Blaze, and Monster Machines.” In the future, they are hoping to have the attraction include rides as well as party event spaces.

As mentioned before, the American Dream mega-mall has been a work in progress. Since the project’s proposal, according to Philly Voice, the project has been “passed through the hands of two prior developers, the project was snagged by the 2008 financial crisis, severe weather and since-settled lawsuits from the New York Giants and Jets over traffic conflicts at MetLife Stadium."

The project cost an original $5 billion with an approved $1.5 billion tax-exempt bond after the project apparently received some legal hardship.

In the upcoming years, customers can expect to go to a multiplex shopping mall which will have about 400 retailers, a waterpark, Cinemax dine-in theater, a LEGOLAND Discovery Center, a Sea Life Aquarium, and, of course, Nickelodeon.
