ICYMI: Live-Action ‘Beauty and the Beast’ To Feature Gay Character

Bill Condon, director of the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, dropped some very interesting news about the Disney film.

LeFou, the character played by Josh Gad, will be portrayed as gay, marking the first time an openly LGBTQ character will appear on-screen in a Disney film.

The director originally spoke with Attitude for their upcoming April issue, saying, “LeFou is somebody who on one day wants to be Gaston and on another day wants to kiss Gaston.”

Condon continued, “He’s confused about what he wants. It’s somebody who’s just realizing that he has these feelings. And Josh makes something really subtle and delicious out of it.”

The actor of Frozen, Book of Mormon, and Jobs-fame, Gad took to his Twitter account to express his feelings about making Disney movie history.
